Intel Core i7-3970X Arrives Soon, Ivy Bridge-E Details Emerge
The Intel Core i7-3970X processor is expected to see the light of day within the next few weeks, taking the performance crown from the current 3960X. The 3970X is expected to have a base clock-speed of 3.50 GHz with Turbo Boost taking that up to a round 4.00 GHz – 100 MHz higher than the Turbo Boost clock-speed of the Core i7-3770K and making it the highest clocked Intel CPU of all time. As with the 3960X, the 3970X will be a six-core processor with HyperThreading, amounting to twelve threads total.
Looking further into the future, Ivy Bridge-E is looking to launch during the third quarter of 2013. Ivy Bridge-E will be based on the current HEDT (high-end desktop) LGA2011 / X79 Express platform. Models will include the Core i7-4930, 4960, 4970 and a rumored 4990, although specs in these processors are not yet known. They will be based on the same 22 nm process as existing Ivy Bridge processors, and will support quad channel DDR3-1866. Intel is expected to announce the Ivy Bridge-E family of processors at IDF (Intel Developer Forum) Fall 2013, with new motherboards arriving around the same time as Computex Taipei 2013. Source — BSN
