ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming Review

In an ideal world many would like to own the Crosshair VIII Hero (Wi-Fi), or even better yet the Crosshair VIII Formula. However, that isn’t the reality we live in and such high priced motherboards are simply not feasible to many. That said, just because these aforementioned boards may be out of reach, it doesn’t mean one can’t enjoy many of the key features they have at a more palatable price. The ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming, despite the lamentable name claims to be one such offering. Think of it as a Crosshair VIII Hero (Wi-Fi), with a number of things removed or changed. Surprisingly, what has been done away with leaves much of the motherboard intact and that means you get all the ROG ‘exclusive’ features. Perhaps not in their full glory, but flashed out enough to make it worth your while.
One look at the specifications and its clear just how similar this motherboard is to the Crosshair VIII Hero (CHVIII Hero from here on). You have to look quite carefully to spot the differences, but make no mistake they are there. The only question is how well does the motherboard present itself with these alterations and/or omissions. For the vast majority of users I’d say the STRIX X570-E Gaming makes a great case for itself, but there’s no need to simply take my word for it. Rather, take a look at the features, performance and price; then decide if it’s suitable for your needs or if you’d prefer the fully fledged CHVIII Hero experience.

This one shouldn’t be surprising, it’s mostly PCIe Gen4, native USB 3.2 Gen2 and support for the latest 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs. Do note that on the official board page, ASUS lists the Rear I/O Panel connectivity options in the oddest way. It lists 8x USB 2.0 and 5x USB 3.1, in addition to what has been tabulated here. Obviously that’s not possible as that would make for one really big I/O panel. The important thing you need to know here is that all the USB ports are of the 3.2 variety and support Gen2 10Gbps throughput.
