Intel’s third generation “Ivy Bridge” Core-series processors are proving to be highly overclockable, and for the first time we have some extreme benchmarks leaked by NordicHardware. The results were achieved using a Core i7-3770K and include SuperPi 1M at almost 7 GHz, SuperPi 32M at about 6.6 GHz and PiFast at about 6.8 GHz – on average a 1 GHz increase over clock speeds used by Sandy Bridge processors for the same benchmarks.

SuperPi 1M was devoured in 5.187s at 6961.6 MHz, giving Ivy Bridge an efficiency advantage of approximately 2.5 % over Sandy Bridge. While that may seem small, the frequency difference is enough to make the overall difference between the current Sandy Bridge world record almost 12 %. SuperPi 32M was run at 6650.1 MHz and completed in 5m 2.843s, while PiFast was run at 6805.1 MHz for a time of 10.56s.

The test system comprised of an ASUS Republic of Gamers Maximus V Gene motherboard using Intel’s new Z77 performance chipset, 2x 2 GB DDR3 memory clocked at between 2,575 MHz and 2,652 MHz (depending on the benchmark) with timings of 7-11-7-28 1T. Source — NordicHardware
