ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro 512 GB SSD Review
General Overview
ADATA has covered the XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro with a bright red heatsink. NVMe drives can put out a lot of heat under load, and heat degrades performance. While it might not be to everyone’s taste, it is at least functional. Like most SSDs, the heatsink found here isn’t meant to be removed. That said, it is slim enough not to cause an issue for most configurations.
Although it has a heatsink, airflow over an NVMe drive is always recommended. The heat output may be low, but without airflow to remove the heat it will still get quite hot. The slightest bit of airflow can make a huge difference to performance and the life of a drive.
With the heatsink removed one can see the controller, DRAM cache, and two NAND modules. The remaining NAND modules are on the other side of the drive, covered by the product label and serial number. As the controller is the component that generates the most heat, the NAND modules on the underside are not an issue.
