AMD Pitcairn Specifications Released
Slotting in between Cape Verde and Tahiti, AMD’s Radeon 7800 series of GPUs codenamed Pitcairn is due for release in March. Occupying the sub US $300 market, the Radeon 7800 series will introduce three SKUs, namely the Radeon HD 7850 1 GB, Radeon HD 7850 2 GB and Radeon 7870. The sub US $300 market is aimed squarely at the gaming market, offering the sweetest balance of price to performance. Specifications for the Pitcairn range are as follows:
Radeon HD 7850
- 20 Graphics CoreNext (GCN) Compute Units with 1,280 stream processors
- 80 Texture Mapping Units (TMUs)
- 24 Render OutPut units (ROPs)
- 2 GB GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit bus
- 950 MHz core speed
- 1,375 MHz (5.00 GHz effective) memory speed
Radeon HD 7870
- 22 Graphics CoreNext (GCN) Compute Units with 1,408 stream processors
- 88 Texture Mapping Units (TMUs)
- 24 Render OutPut units (ROPs)
- 1 GB or 2 GB GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit bus
- 900 MHz core speed
- 1,250 MHz (5.50 GHz effective) memory speed
