AMD Takes DDR3 Frequency World Record With G.Skill

Today Taiwanese overclocker “TK-OC” brought memory speeds that much closer to the big 2.0 GHz mark by becoming the first person to validate more than 1,900 MHz (3,800 MHz effective) using DDR3 memory. The RAM, which was 2x 1 GB G.Skill Perfect Storm, was run at 1,918.5 MHz (3,837 MHz effective) with timings of CL11-13-13-35 using an AMD FX-8150 on an ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard.

In order to achieve this speed, both the CPU’s integrated memory controller and the memory itself had to be cooled to subzero temperatures, while the motherboard remained air cooled.
