AMD’s Volcanic Islands GPU?
Turns out, according to the internet rumor mill, that AMD may bring a new line of GPUs as early as Q3 2014 in what we can only assume as AMD’s answer to NVIDIA’s 700 series GPUs due later this month. We have no information on this ourselves but we’ve seen the following numbers as a suggested specifications for at least the HD7970 replacement.
- 20 nm process
- 4096 stream processors
- 16 serial processor cores
- 4 geometry engines
- 256 TMUs
- 64 ROPs
- 512-bit GDDR5 bus
We’ve no idea how true this is, but if it turns out to be so, it could make for a mighty fine GPU, certainly one faster than what we have at present with the GTX TITAN. The picture above of the logical layout of the supposed GPU form chiphell.com has been popping up on the internet everywhere.
