Back in April this year, GIGABYTE unveiled the WindForce 3X 450W cooler which was to be used on the GeForce GTX Titan. The cooler is a dual-slot design and features three fans (known as Triangle Cool Technology) which cool two aluminum fin-stack heatsinks which are fed by no less than six copper heatpipes. Unfortunately, NVIDIA’s restrictive policy which prevented AIB partners from modifying air coolers on the cards was never lifted, but the guys at GIGABYTE have found a way to bypass the restriction.

Instead of pre-installing the cooler on the GTX Titan, GIGABYTE is offering the card with the stock reference NVIDIA cooler installed and the WindForce cooler included in the box (SKU GV-NTITANOC-6GD-B). They have included everything needed for replacing the heatsink, from instructions to thermal paste to a cleaning cloth and even a mouse pad. It is worth noting that swapping the cooler won’t affect the warranty at all.

The base clock speed of the card is 928 MHz with the boost speed advertised as 980 MHz, but NVIDIA’s GPU Boost 2.0 will vary the maximum clock speed according to the temperature of the GPU core. The box is slightly bigger in order to accommodate the extra cooler, but good news is that it shouldn’t cost any more than the existing GIGABYTE GeForce GTX Titan.
