Intel Core i7-3820 Successfully Overclocked To 5,666 MHz
Bringing up the bottom end of the Sandy Bridge-E platform, the Core i7-3820 is not only the only processor in the range to have only four cores with HyperThreading, but also the only to come with a locked clock multiplier with a ceiling of 43x. While this may seem very limiting, GUN’G’STAR of overclocking team TeamRussia has successfully achieved 5,666 MHz by using a BCLK speed of 131.74 MHz, multiplier of 43x and a core voltage of 1.600v.
In order to achieve this speed, GUN’G’STAR had to disable two of the cores as well as HyperThreading, and extreme cooling was used. The motherboard behind the feat was the Asus Rampage IV Extreme, which had four of its RAM slots populated by GeIL DDR3-1600. The CPU-Z validation link is available here. Source – Expreview
