Intel’s “Lynx Point” 8-Series Chipset Features Surface
Intel’s 7-series family of chipsets, code-named “Panther Point”, has just arrived and the Ivy Bridge 22 nm processors arrive next week. This means that it is time for the company to move on to their next architecture, the second generation of 22 nm CPUs known as “Haswell”. These chips will once again come with a new socket, LGA1150, and a new chipset named “Lynx Point”. The 8-series family will follow a naming convention very similar to what we’ve come to know.
The top of the range chipset, the Z87, will offer a full feature-set as well as overclocking. Following it will be the the Z85 which will offer similar features to the Z87 barring Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology and possibly RAID. H87 will be similar to Z87 but lacking overclocking features, Q87 and Q85 will be for larger business desktop workstations with client management features, and B85 will be aimed at small-to-medium enterprises.
