NAMEGT Takes AMD “Piledriver” FX-8350 To 8.18 GHz
AMD’s latest micro-architecture, Piledriver, is proving to be just as overclockable as Bulldozer. Korean overclocker NAMEGT secured himself as the first person to break the 8 GHz mark by taking an AMD FX-8350 processor to 8,176.47 MHz – more than 100 % above the stock speed and a world record for the chip.
NAMEGT binned a total of 24 CPUs in order to find the golden sample and in order to reach this speed, 1.932v was sent through the CPU with a 29x multiplier and bus speed of 281.94 MHz. Liquid nitrogen cooling was used in order to achieve this feat, and the specifications of the system were as follows:
- CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.00 GHz 8 Core
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z
- RAM: Unknown Samsung modules, 2x 4 GB running at 939.8 MHz (DDR3-1880), CL10 12-11-28
